Build Solar Driven Toys

Mobilo Solar Experience

New in store!  The Mobilo Solar Experience Kit.

Build solar driven toys like helicopters, planes, windmills and lots more, just use your imagination! The Mobilo Solar Experience Kit contains 14 pieces including a solar rotor, the solar cell drives a tiny electric motor to spin the rotor. The rotor operates best under direct sunlight but will also work indoors under strong lights.

We’ve made a few short videos on things you can construct with the Moblio Solar Experience Kit, shown is our solar plane, we’ve also made a video on our solar helicopter and windmill, more links to these later . . .

A low energy bulb was used to make the solar rotor spin for the movie.

Spykee Micro

Spykee Micro

Meccano Spykee MicroNew this week is Spykee Micro from Meccano. Meccano is one of those brands that have been around forever, starting out with simple punched metal bars, held together by nuts and bolts.

Meccano moving with the times now create exciting ranges of toys based on the old concept of nuts, bolts and punched holes, this time with newer and brighter materials and brilliant ideas.

Breaking the tradition is Spykee Micro a small IR controlled miniature robot needing only seven bolts to assemble; the rest of the project contains 20 pieces that clip or slip into place.

Spykee is easy to build, however the instruction are graphic based with no written step by step instructions which would make the whole process extremely easy.

When completed Spykee, spins, moves forward and makes a range of light and sound effects.

Spykee makes a great toy for any kid or kid at heart over the age of seven

Pros:

  • Bright
  • Colourful
  • Easy to build
  • Easy to operate
  • Lots of fun

Cons:

  • Instructions could be better
  • Supplied batteries did not last long.

Spykee moves along by hidden wheels under the body, it’s not clear that the rubber treads are just cosmetic and don’t move.
